Escaping the dangers around us

We cannot escape the dangers that abound in life without the actual and continual help of God. Let us then pray to Him for it continually. How can we pray to Him, without being with Him? How can we be with Him, but in thinking of Him often? And how can we have Him often in our thoughts, unless by a holy habit of thought which we should form?

Sin in a Disguise

Sin goes in a disguise, and thence is welcome; like Judas, it kisses and kills; like Joab, it salutes and slays. The foolish sinner sees the pleasant streams of Jordan, but not the Dead Sea, into which they will certainly empty themselves.

Giving What You Wish You Had

Do you wish to receive kindness? Be kind to another. Do you wish to receive mercy? Show mercy to your neighbor. Do you wish to be applauded? Applaud another. Do you wish to be beloved? Exercise love. Do you wish to enjoy the first rank? First concede that place to another. Become yourself the judge, yourself the lawgiver of your own life.
